Exploring ideas about life and well-being.
It all started with my desire to have honest conversations about what truly matters. Whether it's about health and well-being or the nature of reality.
Hello, I am Jim Jones.
I am a lifelong student with various passions, including philosophy, quantum physics, cognitive neuroscience, cultural anthropology, and social linguistics. Over the past two decades, I have taught courses on historic Christianity, Daoism, and Naturalism.
Artistic expression and music are essential aspects of human well-being. In the early days of Kinship Cafe, I focused on interviews and performances with creatives. Here are some videos from that period. You can find more on the YouTube channel @kinship.cafe
Guests Jimmy and Enrique preform live and discuss the life changing experience of Enrique’s heart attack.
Guest Julia Othmer performs live and discusses the importance of community and current political challenges with Jim.
Daoism
As the conversations continued at Kinship Cafe, they became more focused on Philosophical Naturalism and eventually Classical Daoism (Taoism). Here I am presenting an introduction to the Daodejing (Tao Te Ching) at the Scientifically Informed Philosophy lecture series, co-hosted with Lawrence M. Krauss, a theoretical physicist, and sponsored by Cyan Banister. You can watch all the videos from that event here.
Weekly Meetings
Kinship Cafe now hosts a weekly meeting where I explore the text of the Daodejing in detail. These are held in person and on Zoom. Here are some videos from past discussions. You can see all of them here.
